Why have psychotherapy or counselling?
Most of us experience times in our lives when we need more support. We undergo important changes or struggle with difficulties in our relationships with others. We feel isolated, anxious, angry, depressed or lacking in confidence. We get stuck in unsatisfying patterns that hold us back from functioning as fully as we would like. Perhaps life is simply not as we want it to be and we yearn for something more. We may just want to learn more about
ourselves.
What happens in therapy?
Psychotherapy involves meeting with someone trained to help you make sense of, and work with, the issues that are troubling you, and help you develop a greater psychological, emotional and/or spiritual well-being.
Core Process Psychotherapy is an approach which combines both Eastern and Western understandings and is based on the belief and experience that at the heart of our being we are already inherently whole, sane and healthy.
Often, due to the conditions of our lives, we lose touch with this. We develop habits in order to protect ourselves or have experiences that we need to push away. We relate to others in unconscious ways that don’t always serve us well. For whatever reason, parts of ourselves may have become lost, hidden or stuck, our choices feel more limited, and we are unable to be all that we can be.
During therapy, as well as exploring current life issues and talking through your concerns, we will together explore other layers that may be present, influencing how you are experiencing your situation.
This is a process of deep listening and awareness and can include bringing attention to thoughts, feelings, behaviours and sensations; noticing what is happening in the body; exploring images or dreams.
Throughout therapy you will choose what you wish to bring. My intention is to support you to work in your own way, at the level and pace that feel right for you. For each person the journey is different.
Psychotherapy has no set answers. Instead, in an atmosphere of warmth, safety and acceptance, I offer you the opportunity to explore and welcome back more of who you can be and to rediscover the inner wisdom, vitality and well-being that can entail.
Learning to see yourself more clearly and accept yourself more fully is a process that works at a profound level and one through which transformation and healing are possible.
